Not in the Book

If there’s ever a revised edition, some reference to the fact that, after most research was stopped, studies were allowed to continue at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center might be of at least historical interest. I treated the last cancer patient there in 1977. I’ve never been sure why the FDA allowed us to continue. At first we had two NIMH grants in process, one with alcoholics and one with hospitalized neurotics. We also had work with cancer patients in process, began work with narcotic addicts, and had our “training project” for mental health and religious professionals. There were smaller projects as well: with MDA and DPT, the Referred Patient Project headed by John Rhead, the beginnings of a comparative study of DPT and Psilocybin, etc.
